LGBTQI+
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and others (LGBTQI+)
Our vision for LGBTQI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and others) inclusion at TPG Telecom is to create safe and inclusive spaces free from homophobia, transphobia, violence and discrimination.
Key LGBTQI+ Inclusion Initiatives:
Supporting under-represented groups within the LGBTQI+ community
We acknowledge that certain groups within the LGBTQI+ community are less visible and face additional barriers to inclusion, including transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people and those who identify as bisexual and pansexual.
We take steps to understand their needs, so that we can tailor support and provide better service for our customers and create a more inclusive workplace for our people.
Supporting our Employees
We embedded awareness and support for the Transgender community through a customer campaign in support of Minus18 called #ChangeTheCourse. Customers in our Vodafone company owned stores could opt for an inclusive trans themed bag that included a ribbon to show support for Minus18 and our Trans community, along with a flyer explaining why inclusion is important and how they can make a difference.
An important part of this campaign was aligning with best practice trans and gender diverse inclusion by removing customer titles (Mr, Mrs, etc.) in our Vodafone Customer systems. As titles are gender orientated, it ensures our systems, practices and communications remain as inclusive as possible. We were proud to showcase our ChangeTheCourse initiative at Acon’s 2023 Pride In Practice conference.
Active Allyship
Our LGBTQI+ employee network, Connect, consists of a group of passionate employees who work together to champion equality and create a safe and inclusive community for LGBTQI+ employees and customers. Our strategy focuses on elevating allyship towards driving passive allies into active.
As part of Pride month 2024, we ran a Change Makers campaign and partnered with Abbie Jane to promote the Rainbow Shoelace project.
We also celebrated Wear it Purple Day 2023 by encouraging employees to show their visible support and allyship by wearing purple and sharing stories highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion, personal expression and individuality.
Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI)
TPG Telecom was extremely proud to be awarded Silver Status at the 2024 AWEI Awards , run by our partner Pride in Diversity who drives best practice LGBTQ+ inclusion in Australia and sets a comparative benchmark for Australian employers across all sectors. Our Silver Status ranking is a testament to our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment where our people feel safe, confident, and respected to bring their whole selves to work.
